Trivia: “Cielito Lindo” is a Mexican folk song written by Quirino Mendoza y Cortés in 1882 and is often performed by mariachi bands.
It is one of the most popular songs widely known throughout the Spanish-speaking world as a symbol of Mexico. In recent years it has become an unofficial national anthem for Mexicans, sung as a sign of unity.
Mariachi music traditionally features instruments like violins, trumpets, guitars, vihuela, guitarrón, and voice (singing).
Other instruments like the harp, guitarra de golpe, flute, and accordion are also popular in mariachi ensembles.

Listening Sample
De la Sierra Morena,
Cielito lindo, vienen bajando,
Un par de ojitos negros,
Cielito lindo, de contrabando.
Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Canta y no llores,
Porque cantando se alegran,
Cielito lindo, los corazones.
From the Sierra Morena,
Lovely sky (darling), coming down,
A pair of black eyes,
Lovely sky (darling), sneaking by.
Ay, ay, ay, ay,
Sing and don't cry,
Because singing makes us happy,
Lovely sky (darling), our hearts.
