Summer School & Summer Opportunities

Summer School – It’s Academic!

Summer School 2023 will be held at Park and Horlick high schools in person, but the majority of the courses will be administered on the computer. Students will physically need to be in the building.  Check here for course offerings.

The majority of the classes offered are for make-up.  Some classes will be made using a computer-based curriculum (Edgenuity).

Students/parents need to register for classes via this link.  Your counselor will review the request and check which classes need to be made up.

Summer School is offered Monday – Thursday beginning Monday, June 19 and ends Thursday, July 27. The majority of Summer School courses are offered between 8:30-11:30AM.

All Summer School coursework must be completed by July 27 or the student will need to start the coursework over.

Regular attendance is key to being a successful student. However, students who complete their courses early are excused from the rest of summer school

Summer Bridge (incoming freshmen) August TBD

The district offers a summer bridge program for incoming freshman (formerly called LEAP at Park).  These programs have been in place for years and have been successful in creating a smoother transition for our students entering high school. This year, in accordance with our district’s Raising Racine plan, we are expanding our approach to provide academic, career, and skill development in addition to the team building activities that have been a hallmark of the prior experiences. In addition, we are inviting and expecting all of our new freshmen to attend.  Registration information will be available soon

As we are committed to having all of our students to attend, there will be no charge for the program. You may have the opportunity to purchase school related spirit items during the event. Lunch will be provided, and transportation will be available on a limited basis. Watch for more information later this summer on bus routes and stops.  We look forward to seeing our freshmen this summer. They will meet their classmates and teachers and learn about their new school. In addition, we will take the extra time to help them develop some organizational and academic skills necessary to succeed in high school. Finally, there will be a variety of career pathway activities to help focus their areas of future study. All in all, we have a good time planned for our new high schoolers and we look forward to your participation.

Pre-College Programs

There are several opportunities for students to take advantage of during the summer.  Many colleges and universities have pre-college programs on their campus during the summer.  Some are for just a few days and some are over a week long.  They cover topics from drama, architecture, college prep, science and reading.  These are great programs to take advantage of and look great on college and scholarship applications.  You can search for pre-college events at the UW System campuses here.  If a student qualifies for free or reduced lunch, they may be eligible for up to 3 waivers through the department of public instruction.  Click here for the waiver application.

Several colleges and universities also have specialty camps that go on during the summer, such as the women's engineering camp at UW Madison, or the business camp at UW Whitewater.  Students can check with their counselor for more info or as information becomes available, we will post it below.
