Science OVERVIEW

At Messalonskee, we have worked very hard to build out our program offerings to provide students with a rigorous and comprehensive suite of learning experiences to chose from during their four years of high school.  As part of this effort we have developed varied-length learning experiences to provide students options while doing our best to meet them where they are in their learning and move them forward.   Students have an opportunity in each content area to advance into high-level instruction including Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment College (DE) classes.

RSU18 Curriculum:

At Messalonskee High School we want all of our students to go to college, but recognize that some may have different post-secondary aspirations.  We have utilized the CP designation for those learning experiences that are at a level expected to prepare a student for college.  Courses and Seminars not including the CP designation include electives outside our curriculum (i.e. volunteerism) or are focused on remedial skills in an attempt to prepare the student for eventual college-level programming and life after High School.

Note: Our alternative education courses are not designated as CP level although they do cover much of the same material.

Additional Resources:

* MARZANO TAXONOMY (Rigor Level: The Marzano taxonomy is part of each standard a student is expected to meet at Messalonskee)  - Each standard is put in scale format and has its level of rigor specified in an effort to ensure consistent measurement of proficiency through the system, and to encourage students to move toward higher level of rigor as they meet and exceed the level of proficiency specified.
