Jobs for Maine’s Graduates: 9/10: HS82604 (.5 credits)

JMG  is designated to prepare students for life after high school. Five units will be completed: Self and Society, Career Research, Career Prep, College Research, and Financial Literacy. Students will discuss, research, collaborate, and explore post-secondary education options, as well as various careers, while applying skills they learn, to everyday circumstances. Students learn the importance of being part of a community and community service. Guest speakers will be brought in when applicable along with field trips. Teamwork and problem solving skills are incorporated in weekly challenges to have students compete respectfully and positively. This course is a graduation requirement.

Jobs for Maine’s Graduates: Multi-Year: HS82650 (1 credit)

The JMG Multi-Year program is designed for sophomores and juniors who have completed the JMG 9/10 program. The Multi-Year (MY) program focuses on thirty competencies in the following topics: Career Development, Job Attainment, Job Survival, Communication, Leadership and Self-Development, Personal Skills, and Habits of Mind.  Students are members of the JMG Career Association and have the opportunity to participate in on and off-campus activities regarding leadership, citizenship, social awareness, and career preparation.  Students must complete five hours of community service in this course. Students who wish to enroll in JMG as a sophomore, junior, or senior must have already completed JMG Career Prep and need to have an interview with the JMG Specialist teaching the course to ensure appropriate placement.

Prerequisite: Sophomore/Junior status

Jobs for Maine’s Graduates: Senior Program: HS82641 (1 Credit)

The JMG Senior program is designed for seniors who have completed the JMG 9/10 program. The Senior (SR) program focuses on thirty-seven competencies in the following topics: Career Development, Job Attainment, Job Survival, Communication, Leadership and Self-Development, Personal Skills, Life Survival, Workplace, and Habits of Mind.  Seniors will meet with business professionals, participate in interviews, learn about various internships and work with community partners. Selected seniors could participate in job shadows and local and statewide competitions. The JMG program for upperclassmen focuses on community relations, job seeking skills, interviewing, resume development, and other employment and postsecondary readiness activities. Students are members of the JMG Career Association and have the opportunity to participate in on and off-campus activities regarding leadership, citizenship, social awareness, and career preparation.  Students must complete five hours of community service in this course. Students who wish to enroll in JMG as a senior must have already completed JMG Career Prep and need to have an interview with the JMG Specialist teaching the course to ensure appropriate placement. Prerequisite: Senior status

Workforce Development: HS90101 (.5 credit)

The Workforce Development course is designed for Juniors and Seniors who are seeking employability skills, career development, participation in interviews and resume development. The course includes a 40 hour internship and other post-secondary readiness opportunities. Students who wish to enroll in WFD must be willing to complete the 40 hour internship, outside of school hours. Students will work with the Workforce Development teacher to find placement opportunities within the community. Students will need to provide their own transportation to and from the internship site and maintain professionalism, adhere to policies and procedures of the employer/business.

SEMINARS:

Personal Finance:  SEM115 (.5 credits)

Personal Finance is a seminar designed to help students understand the impact of individual choices on occupational goals and future salaries. Students will design personal and household budgets, simulate use of checking and saving accounts, demonstrate knowledge of finance, debt, and credit management, evaluate and understand insurance and taxes. Student will also set short and long-term financial goals. This course will provide a foundational understanding for making informed personal financial decisions.
