OVERVIEW

First Aid/CPR (CP):  HS62910 (.5 credit)

Students will be taught First Aid, CPR, and AED skills.  The course content and activities will better prepare an individual to recognize emergency situations and make first aid decisions until trained medical personnel arrives. Students have an opportunity to become certified in First Aid and CPR through American Heart Association. The course meets for one quarter every day or for one semester alternating days.

Health (CP):  HS62200 (.5 credit)

Health Education gives students the knowledge and skills to thrive physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It contributes to students’ ability to successfully practice behaviors that protect and promote health, and to avoid and reduce health risks. Health education helps students to determine personal values and group norms that support healthy behaviors. They develop the skills required to adopt, practice, and maintain health-enhancing and safe behaviors. Health education helps students to be better consumers of information, manage stress, and make healthy decisions in the face of conflicting messages. This course meets every day for one quarter or alternating days for one semester. Grades 9-10

PHYSICAL EDUCATION:

Beginners Fitness: HS62310 (.5 credit)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed for participation in team sports and lifetime sports. It provides students with opportunities to practice motor and social skills, to analyze skills and to participate in physical fitness.

Beginners Fitness includes: Indoor or Outdoor sports: Racquet Sports, Cooperative Games, and Weight Training

This course meets every day for one quarter or alternating days for one semester. Once students have met the PE requirements, this course may be repeated for additional credit with teacher’s approval.

Indoor Team Sports: HS62340 (.5 credit)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed for participation in team sports and lifetime sports. It provides students with opportunities to practice motor and social skills, to analyze skills and to participate in physical fitness.

Indoor Team Sports includes: Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball

This course meets every day for one quarter or alternating days for one semester. Once students have met the PE requirements, this course may be repeated for additional credit with teacher’s approval.

Outdoor Team Sports: HS62330 (.5 credit)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed for participation in team sports and lifetime sports. It provides students with opportunities to practice motor and social skills, to analyze skills and to participate in physical fitness.

Outdoor Team Sports includes: Ultimate Frisbee, Soccer, lacrosse, Flag Football, Softball…

This course meets every day for one quarter or alternating days for one semester. Once students have met the PE requirements, this course may be repeated for additional credit with teacher’s approval.

Racquet & Net Sports: HS62360 (.5 credit)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed for participation in team sports and lifetime sports. It provides students with opportunities to practice motor and social skills, to analyze skills and to participate in physical fitness.

Racquet Sports includes: Tennis, Speedminton, Pickleball, Volleyball

This course meets every day for one quarter or alternating days for one semester. Once students have met the PE requirements, this course may be repeated for additional credit with teacher’s approval.

Weight Training/TRX/Team Sports: HS62320 (.5 credit)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed for participation in team sports and lifetime sports. It provides students with opportunities to practice motor and social skills, to analyze skills and to participate in physical fitness.

Weight Training also includes: TRX/Team Sports

Outdoor Winter Sports: HS62350 (.5 credit)

This course provides students with the skills and knowledge needed for participation in team sports and lifetime sports. It provides students with opportunities to practice motor and social skills, to analyze skills and to participate in physical fitness.

Winter Sports includes: Snowshoeing, Sledding, Cross-Country Skiing, Snow Art, Winter Survival, Outdoor Games…

This course meets every day for one quarter or alternating days for one semester. Once students have met the PE requirements, this course may be repeated for additional credit with teacher’s approval.

Yoga: HS62371 (.5 credit)

This course is designed for all students. In the course, students will participate in the practice of yoga, tai chi, weight training, and meditation. Students will explore the elements of yoga along with performing sequences and developing routines. Fitness standards will be taught.

This course will meet for one quarter every day or one semester on alternating days.
