Informative Speech

Value: 100 points (speech = 50 points, Power Point = 40 points, outline = 10 points)

Purpose:

This will be a formal speech at the podium. You will choose your own topic. Topics can be anything you would like to research and explain/describe to the class. The purpose of an informative speech is to enhance or build your audience’s knowledge of a topic. Choose a topic which interests you. All topics must be approved by me.

Criteria:

1. You will include a Power Point in this speech. The Power Point is to serve as a visual aid for your speech, not as cue cards for your speech.

2. Power Point criteria:

-8-12 slides

-Slides should be informative, but not wordy.

-Expand beyond the information on the slide (don’t just read the slides)

-Clip art, pictures, graphs, charts, statistics, etc., are encouraged

-Works Cited slide

3. Organization:

-You determine what type of organization works best for your topic

· Chronological

· Topical

· Spatial

· Cause/effect

· Problem-solution

Outline: You will create an outline for this speech. This outline should cover your whole speech, including your Power Point information. Outlines do not have to be written in complete sentences. Include a works cited page.

Time Range: 5:00-8:00

Order Format: We will lottery names to determine the presentation order. Volunteers are accepted!

Reminders: Use the Power Point periodically throughout your speech. Do not read off the Power Point; use it as a visual aid.
