Demonstrative “How to” Speech
Value: 50 points (speech = 40 points, outline = 10 points)
Purpose:
Each student will demonstrate to the class how to ________. You may choose any topic you would like, as long as it has clearly defined steps. Communication is a key to giving any speech. Being able to clearly convey your message to the audience is the purpose behind all speeches. An easy way to clearly convey a message is by showing a step-by-step process. This speech is designed to be fun. Be as creative as you would like with your topics, just make sure they are school appropriate.
Criteria:
1. The speech must show clear steps to get from A-Z
2. A visual aid or aids must be used
3. These steps should be followed:
-Tell audience what is being made or what are you demonstrating
-List all ingredients, items, tools, etc.
-Go through a step-by-step analysis
-End with a final product that can be shown
4. Processes must be one of the following:
-A product is actually made during the speech
-Steps are shown with real items but final product is pre-made
-Steps are shown with representative items, final product is pre-made
5. Only one topic per student
6. Make all necessary arrangements ahead of time (keeping food in fridge, bringing plates, etc.)
Outline: You will turn in a written outline of your speech. Your outline does not have to be written in complete sentences. It should be an overview of your speech (introduction, steps, conclusion). Outlines will be due the day we start presentations.
Time Range: 2 ½ minute minimum.
Order Format: We will lottery for names to determine the presentation order.
