General Resources: Lots of information about N.C.
N.C. Kids Page--provided by own very own Secretary of State's office
The World Almanac and Book of Facts p. 573--this is a book, in print form that has to be used in the media center.
Scholastic Atlas of the United States pp. 52-53--this is also a book, in print form that has to be used in the media center.
Pages 1-10-- N.C.'s State Symbols: When I did a Google search for N.C. symbols, this page made available from the State Library of N.C. was the first link: The EN*Cylopedia
Page 11--Use the print World Almanac and Book of Facts p. 573, then look for information about what region the product is from.
Page 12-- When I did a Google search for N.C. history timeline, this is the second link. I chose it, because it is obviously designed for kids, and it does not have advertising all over the place and is published by our state government.
Pages 13-14--When I did a Google search for places to visit in N.C., this is the first link. I chose it, because we have used it before, it has lots of pretty pictures, and contains easy to read information.
Pages 15-19--When I did a Google search for famous North Carolinians, I chose the following link, because it links to pages that contain a good bit of information, clear photographs, and very little advertising. You will have to scan the page to see which people listed on your guidelines are included in this resource.
N.C. Kids Page--Famous North Carolinians
Pages 15-19--You can also do Google searches for the individuals listed on your guidelines, but remember to search last name, first name--correct spelling is a must--if you misspell the person's name, you will not get good search results.
Page 20-- Use the blank map that your teacher has given you, but if you misplaced it, visit the Media File Cabinet.
Hmmm--this question deals with maps. Use the Scholastic Atlas of the United States pp. 52-53--this is a book, in print form that has to be used in the media center.
Use the Geology.com maps that we used during regions research--just looking at these maps will give you most of the information needed for page 20.
To finish up the page, please use the easy to read map and other information at N.C. Lighthouse Friends.com to be able to label 3 of North Carolina's lighthouses.
Page 21--Use clipart or wordart in your word processing program to illuminate (make them stand out) the first letter of each line of your acrostic or leave space to do your own artwork. Click the link to see an example of an acrostic poem with simple illumination.
Page 22--Diary entry helps:
Read the information, then write your own diary entry.
Use the information in your social studies book.
Do not copy these pages word for word.
Page 23-- When I did a Google search for N.C. State toast, I chose this resource from N.C. State government:
Page 24-- Use the information on this page to help you determine what our state motto means.
