Cathy Archer

Cathy Archer has been teaching Theatre for thirty-four years. Thirty-three years ago a group of students got together and approached the principal of Rutland High School about creating a drama club. In January of 1985 Cathy was hired to direct a play for the Vermont One Act Competition. Encore Theatre was born. Over the last thirty-three years Cathy has directed over one hundred thirty two plays, including musicals, student written, devised, one acts and full length. She has been the secretary and the president of the Vermont Drama Council. Currently the advisor for the Vermont Youth Drama Council she enjoys working with the students as they work to make the festivals better. Although she has taught full time at various time during her career she now teaches one theatre class a day. Actively involved in many aspects of festivals and school events she leads workshops in Theatre of the Oppressed, exploring global issues through these workshops. Encore Theatre is an International Thespian troupe which allows the students to attend festivals in Maine, New Hampshire and Nebraska. Cathy’s earned a BA in Elementary Education and English from Hartwick College and a MA from West Virginia University in Children’s Theatre.
