PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION SHOULD ENSURE THAT INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES SUPPORT AND PROMOTE THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM.

Standard 2.1 - Student Competency Certification

The certificate or diploma a student receives upon program completion should clearly specify the area(s) of demonstrated competency.

Narrative

Students in the Automotive Technology 2 class take all ten ase student certification test twice during the school year. They first attempt all ten test in the fall semester. After going through most of the class they take the test a second time in the spring semester to see how much they have improved.

Standard 2.2 - Chain of Command

An organizational chart should be used to indicate the responsibilities for instruction, administration, and support services.

Narrative

Chain of command starts at the school board. There responsibilities are to approve policy and to oversee the superintendent of the district.

The superintendent responsibilities are to oversee the the building principals, building and grounds, and director of technology.

Director of Technology overseas all the use of technology in the buildings.

Building and grounds Supervisor responsibilities is to provide safety training to staff and operation and functionality of the buildings.

Building Principals responsibilities is to oversee the building teachers.

Building teachers responsibilities are to oversee the students.

Standard 2.3 - Administrative Support

Positive administrative support from institutional and local governing bodies should be demonstrated. Indicators of administrative support would include: support for staff in-service and update training; provision of appropriate facilities; up-to-date tools, equipment, training support materials, curriculum and support of continuing program improvement.

Portage is very supportive of the auto program. I have a principal who allows me extra planning time to complete NATEF materials. Also, allowing every year to host training during the WTEA here at Portage.

Standard 2.4 - Written Policies

Written policies should be adopted by the administration and policy board for use in decision-making situations and to provide guidance in achieving the program goals. Policies regarding safety, liability, and lab/shop operation should be written and prominently displayed as well as provided to all students and instructors.

All School and District policies are followed in the Automotive classes here at PHS. I've taken those rules and also enforce policies that most see in industry settings.

Standard 2.5 – Customer Vehicle Work

A systematic method of collecting, documenting, and disbursing customer vehicle work repair receipts should be used. Instructional staff should not be required to collect payment for customer vehicle work repairs. (This applies only to programs that accept customer vehicles for instruction and collect money for parts.)

Narrative

The customer takes the risk of letting the students work on the vehicles. Below is what they agree and sign as a document approving of the work to be done on a customer vehicle.

Sending this request you consent that you are the legal owner of the described vehicle, I authorize the students in the Portage Automotive Technology I and II classes at PHS to perform activities, service and repair on my vehicle. As the owner, I am totally responsible for the purchase and cost of any parts or materials needed to perform work on my vehicle. I am fully aware that all activities and work are being performed by students in a classroom/laboratory learning environment and that I will not hold the students, instructors, or the school district responsible in any way for any damages, breakage, or inconveniences that may occur before, during, after, or as a result of any work done. I understand that there is no expressed or written warranty for any work done.

Standard 2.6 - Legal Requirements

The training program should meet all applicable local, state, and federal requirements.

Narrative

All Technology Education instructors have local training with the school nurse on first aid, medication training, and SDS training.

Standard 2.7 - FIRST AID

Rate the availability of a written policy approved by the school administration on First Aid administration and procedures.

Narrative

We are trained here in minor first aid. (cuts and scrapes) If bigger accidents occur that need more medical attention we follow the first aid policy linked below.
