Two Pitch Softball
Objective: 2-pitch softball is ment to be a fast paced more aerobic game than regular softball. It has been modified to keep the game moving at a fast pace and
and provide more action/movement.
The basic rules of softball apply with the following exceptions:
1. The batting team provides their own pitcher if instructor doesn't pitch.
2. The pitcher delivers 2 pitches only, so the batter should attempt to hit the ball whether
the pitch is good or not.
3. A foul ball on the first pitch is considered a strike.
A foul ball on the second pitch is an out.
4. When the batting team has 3 outs against them they are to run down the center of the
field between 1st and 3rd base to take their defensive positions.
5. On the 3rd out the new fielding team must hurry to their positions because as soon as the
batting team gets the ball to the pitcher and the first batter is ready play begins. The
team taking the field should not interfere with the new batting team in any way.
6. In order for the new batting team to get to the dug out from the outfield they must go
outside of 3rd base only, not between home base and 3rd base.
7. The first person up to bat each inning may be anyone who gets there first
(typically will be the catcher). Thereafter the batting order must resume alternating
boy/girl.
8. No stealing or leading off.
9. Batter waiting to bat must remain back out of the way.
10. Throwing the bat is an out and should not happen.
11. The penalty for not abiding by these rules can result in an out or lose of runs.
Same base running rules apply:
- can run through first base
- force out (touch base) = when runner has to run. They have runners are behind them.
- tag out = when runner doesn't have to run. No runners behind them.
* Make sure when running onto the field to take positions that you pay attention and
keep your eyes open and don't get hit with the ball. You are hustling onto the field.
