Mission Statement
To maximize the fitness of every child by attaining a healthy lifestyle.
Philosophy
To provide a progressive curriculum with a wide variety of experiences that challenges our students, builds on acquired skills, and imparts additional skills necessary to remain healthy and active throughout life.
District Requirement
Every student must take and pass physical education each year of their high school career. If a student fails a particular semester in Physical Education, he/she must make up that semester to graduate from Pella High School.
Physical Education Goal
A physically educated student upon graduation will be able to do the following:
1. Diagnose their own level fitness related to the 5 health components.
2. Design a personal fitness plan based on these findings.
3. Monitor their plan using correct technique, FITT principles, and up to date exercises.
4. Adjust their plan according to their results. Be goal oriented and self-evaluate.
Class Expectations
Respect - Yourself, Teacher, Classmates, Equipment,
Each day you will be challenged to make four very important choices:
Attitude - the most important choice you will ever make. You make this choice every minute of every day, and it will influence everything you do in life. Your attitude is the engine that runs everything. And it will ALWAYS be your choice, no matter what the circumstances are.
How you treat others - the better you treat others, the more success you’ll have in life. We reap what we sow...what you send out out comes back to you, and what goes around, comes around. We eventually pay the price for treating people poorly, and we eventually reap the rewards of treating people with respect and kindness.
How hard you work - hard work and suffering are not the same, and hard work and fun are not opposites. You can work hard at something and enjoy it at the same time.
How honest you are - honesty is the best policy. You’ll never know true peace of mind and you’ll never enjoy feelings of self-worth unless truthfulness is deeply imbedded in your character.
