Information Update as of 20 June 2025 from EducationUSA
The U.S. State Department has announced that the U.S. Consulates will begin booking visa appointments again starting this upcoming Monday.
Canadian citizens - DO NOT make a visa appointment. Canadians do not need to book a visa interview to study in the United States. Please share the recording of our Pre-Departure webinar with students who have additional questions about the documents they need to prepare to cross the border.
Canadian PRs and international students (anyone without Canadian or American citizenship) - Monitor the U.S. State Department Visa Appointment website frequently to make a visa appointment at one of the seven U.S. Consulates in Canada located in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Halifax.
Social media - Before the visa appointment, students should make their social media accounts public so that the Consular officers can review them. If a student's account is private, it could affect their visa outcome.
Pre-Departure Orientations - Many EducationUSA offices worldwide host pre-departure orientations. Students are encouraged to contact the office in their home country for additional resources and guidance for their visa appointments.
Encourage students to reach out to EducationUSA if they have additional questions about studying in the USA, or their Designated School Official (DSO) at their university with more specific questions about their new campus.

Scholarships and Funding for Canadian Students Studying in the U.S.A
Thinking about going to the U.S. for post secondary? There are tons of grants, scholarships, and bursaries offered to students who look at expanding their horizons and growing their life experiences. The Government of Canada offers grants for students in Canada who go school in the U.S., there are restrictions that apply so ensure you do your research and see which Grants you can apply for.
There are a number of corporations that offer scholarships for the employees' family members, be sure to check the benefits guide for your family's employer to see if you qualify. There are Scholarships you can apply for from national companies who want to 'Give Back' to the community, ensure you do your research to see which ones apply to you.
You can also work with your High School. High Schools offer of number of bursaries for students who look at going to College for Art and Design, Merit, or Athletics. Be sure to work with your guidance department to see if you can apply to them. BONUS! A number of the U.S. Colleges and State Governments will offer Scholarships for International Students who come to study in the U.S. from Canada. You know that $50,000/year tuition? It could end only costing $7,000 by the time you get every Grant, Scholarship, and Bursary out there. Be sure you look everywhere you can, there are hidden funds under every rock; you just need to know where to look.
Scholars4dev is a handy and easy to use website for international students to find scholarships. There are plenty of search options and categories that tell you exactly how many scholarships are available to you. You also need to check out their scholarship lists because they offer in-depth looks into scholarships specific to country, area of study and amount. If you want an easy laid out list of scholarships that you can quickly apply to, Scholars4dev should be your first stop.
Not only is this website a scholarship portal it is also an excellent source of information if you're looking to study abroad. Studyabroad.com compiles the best scholarships from other websites and displays them in an easy to understand format. I encourage students to use this resource to collect information and develop questions that they have about scholarships and studying abroad to bring to the US College Expo to ask the professionals.
Anyone who has ever looked for a scholarship knows what Yconic is, and it's for good reason. Yconic has one of the largest databases of scholarships and also acts as a social network for students. If you have any worries you can find a thread of other students going through the same thing and offering their advice. Plus, Yconic sends you email newsletters to update you on what scholarships are now available and which ones have deadlines coming up. There is also a feature that allows you to shortlist the ones you want to apply to. This makes organizing your scholarships a simple task.
Of course, you can always count on the Canadian government to have your back. Their website offers plenty of scholarships as well as their guidelines in a way that is easy to overview. However, it doesn't offer the ease of use that the other websites do. If you're willing to do a bit of searching through their website you'll be able to find many scholarships that are only available to Canadian students.
Come to the U.S. College Expo to learn more about Scholarships, and about the financial obligations of going to post secondary in the U.S. Be sure to register now!
