Canterbury Class of 2024!
Students who are graduating in June 2024 have the opportunity to express interest in being considered for CHS Commencement Awards, and to apply for the CHS Letter Crest and Chris Hayduk-Costa Memorial Scholarship (granted to a CHS Arts student).
Below you will find descriptions of all of these awards. Application forms are linked in the email that was sent to you on April 29, 2024.

The Education Foundation of Ottawa has multiple Awards and Scholarships available to students graduating in the OCDSB. Students must be nominated by their school in order to be considered for these awards.
You are invited to express interest in being nominated for special Awards & Scholarships from the Education Foundation of Ottawa by filling out the application forms in the email that was sent to you on April 29, 2024. You can review the detailed list of awards and their criteria below.

CHS Commencement Awards
Black and McDonald & Hugh M. Grant Award
Awarded to two students who have made the most outstanding contribution to the school during their last year at Canterbury High School and who have been successful academically.
William Roberts Humanitarian Award
Awarded to the student who exhibits the qualities held dear by Mr. Roberts demonstrated through voluntary service; individually or as part of a larger group; within the school or community
David McGuinty Graduation Award
This award recognizes one graduating student who has clearly demonstrated motivation, initiative and commitment to succeed and excel while overcoming major difficulties or hardship throughout his/her high school career.
The following specific criteria also apply:
Commitment to overcoming personal or societal barriers through perseverance;
Accepted and Attending Post Secondary Institution or Apprenticeship Program in Fall;
Demonstrated significant increase of performance in behavior;
Shows increased efforts in academics;
Appreciation of Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship.
Lieutenant-Governor’s Community Volunteer Award
Awarded to a graduating student for exemplary community contribution or outstanding achievement through volunteer activity.
Russ Jackson Spirit Award
Awarded to the student who promotes school spirit and Canterbury High School.
Principal’s Award
Awarded to the student who has made the most outstanding contribution to the school while maintaining excellence in academics, hard work and demonstrating leadership ability.
Raymond Joyal Memorial Award
The student must have achieved a high level of creativity in the specialized Arts Canterbury program, demonstrated a commitment to their studies, and is also enrolled in the Core French or French Immersion Program. The student must be proceeding to a recognized post-secondary institution and is not the recipient of any other major scholarship.
CHS Letter Crest
A CHS Letter Crest will be awarded to a Canterbury graduating student who has fulfilled the following criteria:
Minimum overall average of 80% (Level 4-) in each academic year;
Demonstrated excellence and leadership in voluntary (non-curricular) school activities - a minimum of 8 points (1 point per activity per year) will be considered for a 2022 CHS Letter Crest
Eligible activities include being an executive or lead participant in Student Council, BSA, Pride Club, Let's Start Change Club, Key Club, Model UN, Improv, Pride Club, CHILL Camp, Fashion Show, Arts Council, etc.)
