The students at the Fieldstone Middle School are introduced to the world of art and artists as they engage in hands-on projects. They explore the visual arts using the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, and a wide variety of materials, techniques and processes. Student also experience art by analyzing and interpreting works using the appropriate art language. Personal and cultural expression is explored as well as artists' contributions to society.
Understanding the value of Observational Drawing is vital to learning to draw. We encourage all of our students to observe objects, scenes, people, and animals. Draw what you see rather than what you may remember it to look like. Drawing from a photograph may give you some information, but does NOT improve your drawing skills. Amira Gale writes: "Transcribing from three-dimensions to two is ultimately much harder than drawing from a photograph, but it often results in drawings that are ‘richer’ and more authentic." http://www.studentartguide.com/articles/realistic-observational-drawings
8th Grade students are encouraged to register for STUDIO-IN-ART for 9th grade at the NRHS. This will fulfill their 1 unit of credit for graduation and becomes the entry course for further art courses (8th grade Handout).
