Sub Plans - Shading Techniques

Hi Kiddos,

As you know, I'm out but I will see you later this week. Today, you will be working on some shading practice to prepare you for our drawing project. The back of the classroom near the kiln is off limits. TODAY'S PLAN HAS THREE PARTS. Please read this whole page. Clean up after yourself. Thanks!!

STEP 1: Watch this video about VALUE and CONTRAST

STEP 2: Complete the Shading Activity and Value Study Worksheet

Supplies: READ THE DESCRIPTION OF EACH SUPPLY BELOW BEFORE YOU BEGIN SHADING!

On the front table you will find:

Ebony Pencils

A mix of charcoal and graphite. NOT super erasable. Very blendable. Good for dark values 4 and above. These may go in the sharpener :).

Regular Pencils

Great for creating light values like 1, 2 and 3.

Erasers

Ya know, erasers.

Paper Blenders

These are used for blending your shading. They CANNOT be sharpened. You may also use your finger to blend.

Complete the Shading Worksheet first, then do the Value Study sheet. Feel free to work with a partner on the Value Study Worksheet. CLIP ALL SHEETS INTO YOUR PORTFOLIO!!!

STEP 3: Finish drawing THREE objects on plain paper. Clip these into your portfolio. You may use the objects from the purple bin on the front table or use any objects in the room (NO people).
