This Scumbling technique is good for:
- Filling a large space with a single color evenly.
- Creating and even texture/ tone.
- Coloring accurately.
Burnishing
Burnishing is when you use a white colored pencil to blend cross-hatching or light layers of colored pencil.
This technique is good for:
-Blending layers of color (especially mixed colors).
- Smoothing out individual pencil marks/ strokes.
- Tinting (lightening) a color or color mixture.
Remember! For best results always....
1. Take your time.
2. Color the edges of shapes first carefully. Work from outside in.
3. Build up color in light layers even when using a single color
4. Blend different colors together to create a unique color.
5. Keep your pencils sharp and rotate the led to make sure you are always using the sharpest point.
6. If needed, use the white pencil to “burnish” or blend away strong pencil marks or blend colors.
