Step 1:
Line up a ruler with the marks on your painting. Draw light pencil lines to divide the box into 8 equal strips. Cut these strips using scissors (or a paper cutter using an adult's help). There will be two skinny scraps left over. Set aside the 8 strips.
Step 2:
Place a ruler along the top of edge of the box on your zentangle sheet. Make marks at the following measurements:
1.25"
2.5"
3.75"
5"
6.25"
7.5"
8.75"
Repeat on the bottom. Connect the dots and draw lines to create 8 equal strips.
Use scissors to carefully cut out the strips.
Note: if you did not make a zentangle you can also use 1.25" strips of any paper. Construction paper would work great.
Step 3:
Lay out the 8 strips of your painting. Weave the strips of your zentangle through the painted strips using using an under-over pattern.
Weave a second zentangle through using an over-under pattern.
Repeat until you have a checkerboard that is 8 squares by 8 squares.
Make sure to keep your strips snug. Make sure to slide them all the way up!
Glue down to secure with a gluestick.
