My name is Quang Minh Le and I have been a research associate in the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at WVU. I joined Dr. Bhattacharyya’s research group in November of 2018 and worked on developing multi-scale dynamic models to monitor health condition for some critical equipment in boiler systems from supercritical and critical power plants, as part of U.S Department of Energy (DOE) Institute for the Design of Advance Energy Systems (IDAES). I also worked on developing a supercritical CO2 compressor train for flexible design and operation of the carbon capture processes. My hobbies are running, hiking, and spending time with my family.

My current project is to develop dynamics and control of flexible integrated energy systems. This work will focus on developing IDAES predictive first principle dynamic models for critical components such as SOFC/SOEC for participation in load-following and fast-energy markets. High current density operation of SOFC/SOEC can cause adverse effects on efficiency and accelerate degradation of SOFC/SOEC. Understanding the impact of various operating variables on the degradation mechanisms in SOFC/SOEC and then developing optimal operation and control strategies to mitigate component damage will be focused for maximizing the reliability and minimizing the operation and maintenance cost of the integrated energy system. The physical-based degradation models for SOFC/SOEC will be developed in this project. This work will also capture stack-level interaction that will play a critical role in degradation.
