I am Chandra Sekhar Somayajula, a Graduate Research Assistant at Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department, West Virginia University. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Osmania University, India in June 2017. I joined the Advanced Process and Energy Systems Engineering Group in January 2018. My PhD work focused on corrosion modeling, state estimation using Kalman filter, and synthesis of an optimal sensor placement algorithm which has been evaluated for real-time corrosion monitoring in a coal-fired power plant. During my free time I like to read books or do digital sketching.

Optimal Sensor Network Design for Corrosion Monitoring in power plants
My work involves the development of a corrosion model and an estimator framework which utilizes measurements from a corrosion sensor for predicting corrosion rate in boiler components. Recently a novel type of electrochemical sensor is being developed in-house for in-situ measurement of hot corrosion. To determine the ideal locations for these sensors’ placement, I am currently working on the synthesis of an optimal sensor placement algorithm. In addition, the techno-economic analysis is also being conducted for estimating the optimal investment cost in corrosion monitoring framework.
