Explanation: An introduction to various acid-base models including the Arrenhius, the Bronsted-Lowry, and the Lewis models of acids and bases (some others too). A molecular orbital discussion of the Lewis acid-base adduct is presented. Pearson's concept of hard and soft acids and basses (HSAB) discussed. as is Draco's parameters for hard soft interactions based on covalent and ionic influences on the enthalpy of the acid-base interactions.

Measurements of the strengths of acids is discussed, as are substitution effects (both electronic and steric) on the strengths of acids and bases.
