April 25th in Wolf Arena, Lake Hamilton will welcome back 2009 Alumni Dustin Riley Nicholson!

Inline image 1

D. Riley Nicholson has composed for a wide range of ensembles and performance venues including music for contemporary ballet, theater, orchestral music, wind band, chamber music, vocal music, and electronic music. He is a graduate of Lake Hamilton High School, the University of Memphis, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

The Lake Hamilton Wind Symphony will premier his latest composition dedicated to the Lake Hamilton band program entitled, 'Gold'.

The program notes describe Gold as a composition of music 'inspired by the spirit of the Lake Hamilton band program, whose energy, spirit, and drive is palpable as they strive for excellence. Gold is representative of the ensemble itself: the energy of potential, and the opportunity to succeed, grow, fail, try, and go for the gold in each moment.'

The concert begins at 7:00 in Wolf Arena and will feature our sweepstakes award winning high school bands: Concert Winds, Symphonic Winds, and Wind Symphony.

We hope you will join us!

This past Saturday and Sunday, the Lake Hamilton High School Winter Winds competed in the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships, in Dayton, OH. The group performed in preliminary competition on Saturday at Wright State University's Nutter Center, placing 4th. In final competition, the Lake Hamilton Winter Winds placed 4th, with an outstanding finals performance at the University of Dayton arena.  Additionally, Lake Hamilton was named Fan Favorite out of all the scholastic groups in competition!

WGI Sport of the Arts is a non-profit organization producing indoor color guard, percussion, and wind ensemble competitions and serving as the governing body of the indoor winter activities. It is called the Sport of the Arts because it brings music to life through performance in a competitive format. Now entering its 39th year in 2016, the sport continues to evolve and grow. There were more than 36,000 participants at the regional level, and more than 12,000 participants at the Sport of the Arts World Championships this past April.

Winter Winds is a unique area of competition just making it's debut in the United States. Winds performances are very similar to fall marching band but take place indoors. For decades this activity has flourished in Asia and Europe where it's not as common to find a traditional American style football field. This past weekend, Lake Hamilton students were privileged to be able to see the reigning Japanese champion, Aimachi from Nagoya, Japan, give an outstanding gold medal performance!
