DoctorsLive - SurgeryLive Virtual Operating Theatre Experience
DoctorsLive are a group of doctors passionate about inspiring the next generation of students into Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health Professions. We delivered virtual workshops throughout the pandemic which received great feedback, so we wanted to reach out to more keen students.
Our SurgeryLive course is an innovative and interactive virtual course which gives students a real glimpse of what it's like to be a surgeon in an operating theatre, delivered by practising NHS surgeons. The day course includes:
A glimpse into the day to day life of a surgeon
Solving real life surgical cases including history taking and anonymised scans
Live virtual operations - showing step by step how common surgeries are carried out
Learning how to suture with a live follow-along demo (students will be sent their own suturing kit (sent internationally), the same ones used by medical students and doctors)
A chance for students to interact with practising NHS surgeons and doctors - which will be invaluable for UK medical school applications
We aim to make the course as interactive as possible to give students a real taste of what it is like to be a surgeon and to be in the operating room using the latest innovative virtual technology. Students will also get a chance to learn how to suture with their own suturing kit.
These sessions are aimed at students aged 14+ who are interested in a career in Healthcare. Certificates will be provided for participation as virtual work experience. I should be very grateful if you would forward our information on to any students whom you think may be interested.
The next SurgeryLive date is Saturday 4th December 2021 10am - 5pm GMT. For more information, please visit our website below. Please note places are limited and are allocated on a first come first serve basis (deadline 14th November 2021):

Imperial College Medicine Degree: Admission process update
We have created bespoke resources for schools and students, which can be found here. This page contains some specific information for teachers too, including a FAQs document and a short presentation that form tutors could use during the limited form time with their classes to give them quick and effective information about our programme. The page also links to other pages that we recently created and updated: the MMI page about MMIs this year, the Taking a Gap Year, Virtual Open Day, Student Blog pages. The idea is to give students all the information they need in one place and point to places where they can ask questions and liaise with us (such as Social Media links as well as the Student Room’s Ask Me Anything thread).
In addition to this, we would like to update you on this year's Multiple Mini Interviews. This year, candidates will not have to travel to Imperial College, but they will be able to complete the interview session a-synchronously, which means they will not be interviewed "live", but will be allowed to record a video with their answers. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted to select a preferred interview date, and additional resources will be provided to guide them through this year’s admissions process.
We understand that many may have questions about the new process and we would like to reassure you that MMIs will be carried out in the fairest possible way.
Firstly, allowing candidates to record a video and upload it eliminates network and connection issues that might present themselves in an online-synchronous interview.
Secondly, this process standardizes the recruitment process and allows all candidates will be asked the exact same questions in the same manner.
We have created a dedicated page that will tell candidates everything they need to know about MMIs this year, including: preparation tips, instructions on uploading your video and links about work-experience information. Candidates will also have the chance to trial this over the Christmas break, in order to make sure they know exactly what to do on their interview in January!

The Glasgow School of Art - Online Portfolio Workshop
It is a 2 week paid programme, aimed at students planning on making an application for a Fine Art, Design, or Architecture programme within the next two years (2021 and 2022 entry). The initial drive behind putting this together is our awareness of how measures taken to address the COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted on the student’s ability build their portfolio of work. However, it is also suitable for students that have not had their school contact time affected.
It is designed to offer projects, with one on one tutor feedback, that will enable them to expand their existing breadth of work in their portfolio and to take away skills that will help them further develop their own independent leaning tools when building their portfolio going forward. Full details, and how to book, are in the link below:
GSA Open Studio: Online Portfolio Workshop
It begins on Saturday 5th December and deadline for registering will be Monday 30th November. We only have 30 places available and these will be on a first come first served basis so I would advise students interested to register as soon as possible. However, booking has only just gone live so at the time of this email so all 30 places are currently available – but this will soon change!
The programme will be suitable for students thinking of applying to any art school within the UK and not limited to those wanting to make an application to GSA.

Queen Mary, University of London - Top 5 tips on preparing a UCAS personal statement
Compare course content of different universities when the students know which subject they would like to study. Look at the modules on offer, assessment methods and areas of expertise to gauge which programme is best suited to themselves. Learn more about Queen Mary's undergraduate programmes via our Course Finder.
Students need to think about which study location he/she would prefer. For example, there are more opportunities to thrive in a big city such as the UK capital of London, where there are a huge variety of cultural opportunities on offer.
Think about the qualities and traits that admissions teams will look for, such as an understanding of the course they've chosen. When mentioning extra-curricular activities in the statement, ensure that these activities illustrate that your students possess these qualities.
Reflect on what you have learnt during extra-curricular activities such as work experience or volunteering and how they helped your students realise they want to work in the industry when are a graduate.
Substantiate every claim you make. For example, if the statement say your student has a strong interest in law, how can he/she support this claim?
