The University of Melbourne - Admissions Updates

Acceptances Processes
We are always looking for ways to improve our turnaround times. Following this process will make it as easy as possible to get your students a result faster.

Student Visa
Although travel restrictions to Australia are currently in place due to the COVID-19 situation, students will still need to apply for a visa (when it is safe to do so). Students can commence  studies online prior to receiving a visa but should begin this process. If students haven't applied for a student visa or their visa is not granted yet, when they are prompted during the enrolment process, please enter 'Visa Applied For' (VAP), their passport number and CoE end date. Once your student visa is granted, you MUST update your student record via the Student Portal. Find out more here.

Indicative turnaround time frames
Time frames should be applied from the date assessment commences for that intake rather than the date you submitted your application. So for Start Year 2021 applications for example, assessment normally commences around August/September 2020. The Undergraduate Admissions Team is currently prioritising the assessment of the Start Year 2021 intake direct international applications.

Deferrals
We have updated our deferral offer letter process. New offer letters for deferrals will now only be issued under the following circumstances: where the student has an unconditional offer, when the offer letter is conditional but is required for sponsorship/scholarship or other financial purposes, or where the offer letter is conditional but is required for an English package such as UMELBP. In all other cases a new offer letter will not be issued until the student has met all offer conditions.

Upload documents online
Please ensure that all supporting documentations, including those to meet the offer condition(s), are uploaded directly to the University of Melbourne’s online application and not by email. Instructions are available online to assist applicants with the uploading of documents in the correct sections. Please allow at least 10 working days before following up directly with the relevant Admissions Team.

Extension of mid-year application date

To support our future students in the face of the evolving global COVID-19 challenge, we have made changes to the application date for semester 2 2020. Friday 12 June 2020 is now the application closing date for most courses with mid-year intake at the University of Melbourne. Complete applications should be submitted online by 12 June for studies commencing in August. Find out more about undergraduate application dates.

English language requirements

We have made some temporary revisions to the English Language Requirements to accommodate challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. For courses commencing mid-year 2020 and all intakes in 2021, the following revisions apply:

Commencement of Semester 2 fully online for all students if necessary

For now, we’ve shifted to a virtual campus to help students access classes, support and wellbeing services, no matter where they are in the world. Students who commence with us in Semester 2, 2020 online will have the opportunity to complete the full semester online. Full online teaching and assessment arrangements for all of Semester 2, 2020 will be available where necessary. Students will start something new online and join us on campus soon. We are committed to supporting all students to progress through their degrees.

We’ll continue to update this website with information and advice for students wanting to apply for mid-year entry or planning for studies in 2021 as soon as it becomes available.

Supporting documents update

Please ensure that all supporting documentations are uploaded directly to the University of Melbourne’s online application. Once you/your students/your applicants have done this, there is no need to send the documents to us again via email, this can increase the turnaround time. Instructions are available online to assist applicants with the uploading of documents.
