"Independence is greatly valued in our society because it increases the likelihood of success in any situation and setting. Self-management strategies have been widely used to promote independence with tasks in which adult supervision is not needed, accepted, or expected. The process can involve teaching individuals...to evaluate and record their performance while completing an activity. Self-management is also used to help these individuals monitor social behaviors and disruptive behaviors. Finally, these strategies involve teaching individuals to gain access to preferred items/activities for a job well done."
