What We'll Learn
Understanding email information
Dealing with attachments
Email can be broken down into four screens or activities:
Although these screens may be different on different devices, the functions and principles are the same.
On the read screen, you can read the details of a message. Here are a few things to observe:
The screen is read-only, in other words you cannot type on it.
From the screen you have a number of actions that you could choose:
Organize or delete this message
Reply to this message, in which case you will be sent to the Write screen
Forward this message, in which case you will be sent to the Write screen
Use Reply-All keep a number of people involved in an email conversation
Download or view an attachment, a file or picture that someone attached to the message
Click on the Inbox, or another folder to return to a List Screen
If we were to open an e-mail to read the detail, it would look as follows:
We can now do the following activities:
Read the detail of the message that was sent to us. I've included some e-mail etiquette tips in the contents of the picture above.
We could reply to the sender, which would automatically start a new e-mail to their address.
We could delete or organize this e-mail by placing it in a folder for future reference.
If the e-mail has attachments, we could choose to download them to our computer.
Often people will use abbreviations and other symbols to increase their typing speed or to add some emotion to an e-mail message. Here are some of the things you may encounter:
FYI - For Your Information
lol - Laugh out Loud
FW - Forwarded Email
ttyl - Talk to you later
ASAP - As soon as possible
BTW - By the way
:) or :-) - smiley face (sideways)

On many devices, especially phones and tablets, attachments will automatically be displayed as part of the email message. Usually you can click on these to get a larger view of the attachment. On computers, you often have the opportunity to download (or make a copy) of the attached file or picture to your hard drive.
To download:
Choose the download arrow or link.
Choose the location of where you'd like to store the item.
Change the name of the item if desired.
Once you download an attachment, you will be returned to the original email. You can use File Explorer in Windows to locate and work with the attachment outside of email.
