Literary Research Paper Early Bird Turn-in Form

For this assignment, students will write a four-page academic paper (using academic voice and MLA format) in which they explore a theme (or more than one theme) they detect in the literature we have studied in class this year. Students can choose to focus on one work of literature, or they can analyze up to three if they would prefer. Likewise, students can concentrate on one theme, or they can write about up to three different themes.

The paper should also include a works cited page (using MLA guidelines and following this sample) including citations for any works referenced in the paper (i.e. literary texts and research materials). Furthermore, students should provide MLA-style in-text citations in the paper.

The works cited page does not count as one of the four pages required for this paper.

For this paper students will conduct literary research and will be required to cite at least two high-quality literary criticism sources (as found through the databases provided by the Alabama Virtual Library) outside of the original literary text(s) about which they are writing. As a result, the works cited page should include at least three citations (one for a literary text and two for research articles/sources). Papers that do not incorporate at least two scholarly sources will receive a grade of 0.
