Annotated Bibliographies
Annotated bibliographies are lists of sources that relate to the same subject. Unlike a simple Works Cited/References page, annotated bibliographies include annotations beneath each source citation. These annotations provide a researcher or student a glimpse of the content and quality of each source that can serve as a quick reference guide for determining where and how to include sources in projects that require extensive research. Often annotated bibliographies are lengthy themselves, consisting of at least twenty to thirty sources. We will practice assembling an annotated bibliography using the three sources you found for your miniature research project.
MLA Annotated Bibliography Requirements:
Double-space the page, making sure that there is no extra space before or after paragraphs. (Remember, the computer thinks of a new paragraph as any time a user hits the “Enter” key)
Set font to Times New Roman, 12-point
Include proper MLA heading in top left corner
Include a centered title that includes the words “Annotated Bibliography” followed by a colon and a subtitle that indicates the subject of your research. For example, Annotated Bibliography: Nature vs. Nurture
Use a hanging indent. The only part of the entries that touch the left margin should be the first line of the citation. The subsequent lines and the annotation should all be indented.
Use a new line for the beginning of the annotation, but keep the annotation indented under the citation.
Write an annotation that describes the content of the source, summarizes the information you gleaned from the source, and evaluates the usefulness of the source for your research. Annotations should be between 3-7 sentences and should employ conventions of good writing.
Alphabetize your entries
