Writing

Reading and writing are interwoven processes, and each helps build and strengthen the other. Throughout fifth grade, students do a tremendous amount of writing, both independently and cooperatively, 3-4 days per week. The primary curriculum we use is Lucy Caulkins Writing Workshop (see link below). With this program, students learn to cultivate a love of writing, writing stamina, and the ability to write across standards. Our writing units are:

*Narrative writing

*Opinion writing

*Informational writing.
