Health

At the end of the year (June), fifth graders will be taught an introduction to Human Growth. With the support of the sixth grade science team at Crocker, we have developed a unit that is age appropriate and addresses basic health standards. We will notify parents before the unit begins, and there will be an optional meeting for parents to attend. At this meeting, parents will receive a copy of the lessons so they are knowledgeable about what topics will be covered.

The unit has five lessons designed to be taught over 4-5 days. The topics are:

• Staying Healthy as You Grow Up for Boys (Puberty and Hygiene)
• Staying Healthy as You Grow Up for Girls (Puberty and Hygiene)
• The Male Reproductive System
• The Female Reproductive System
• The Human Life Cycle
• HIV/AIDS/ questions and wrap up
