The Division of Comparative Medicine is responsible for full-time institutional veterinary care. Adequate veterinary care is ensured through the employment of two veterinarians and two veterinary technicians who are trained and experienced in laboratory animal medicine and biomedical research using the species and procedures utilized at GU. Dr. Crystal Johnson, DVM, MPH, DACLAM -- Attending Veterinarian; Director of DCM
Dr. Johnson has direct program authority and responsibility for the Institution’s animal care and use program, including all aspects of the veterinary care program, directing and managing the day-to-day operations of the DCM.
Dr. Adrienne Winn, MAg, DVM, DACLAM -- Clinical Veterinarian
The clinical veterinarian has delegated responsibility for routine and emergency veterinary care of all research animals and is involved in planning, advising, monitoring, conducting, and providing oversight for all aspects of the program of veterinary care.
Dr. Winn has delegated responsibility for the bio-methodology and surgery training classes.

Renée Froehlich, ALAT -- Veterinary Technician
The Veterinarian Technicians perform physical exams on incoming and colony animals; assist in quarantine and conditioning programs; coordinate and help execute the environmental enrichment programs; perform veterinary technical health rounds; administer treatments; provide surgical support, including prep, anesthetic monitoring, and post-op care; perform diagnostic tests and collect diagnostic samples; assist with weaning and colony management as requested; take radiographs, and perform euthanasia. In addition to direct animal care, they coordinate technical support services; maintain surgical and other veterinary care support areas; maintain medical records; maintain central supply and pharmacy; order drugs and supplies.
