The DCM is a seven-day-a-week operation, utilizing regular staff through the weekend. On weekends, there are 3-4 animal technicians working each day. On holidays, we generally have full animal care staff, including supervisors. A member of the husbandry managerial staff is on call at all times.
If there is a facility emergency during normal working hours, the DCM Director, Facility Manager, or a Husbandry Supervisor can be called. Facilities personnel and the University Police have a DCM emergency call list and will contact a DCM on-call manager/supervisor regarding any physical plant or security problems detected after normal working hours.
Veterinary staff (veterinarians and veterinary technicians) rotate being on-call for evenings, weekends, and holidays. Veterinary technicians may be the first responders but will call the veterinarian on call for any non-routine or serious health concerns. If there is a veterinary emergency during normal working hours, either the DCM director, a clinical veterinarian, and/or the veterinary technicians can be called.
The veterinary contact list and on-call schedule are available on the investigator information board in the facility entrance foyer.
