DCM Facility Access 

How do I obtain facility access to the DCM?

1.    Attend Orientation

a.    Sign up by emailing Dr. Crystal Johnson and the DCM Office (cj588@georgetown.edu & dcmoffice@georgetown.edu) and indicate what lab and species you are working with.

i. Review the online Canvas training modules.

1.    DCM Orientation.

2.    Animal ordering, cage card request, and census.

ii. Pass the two quizzes (80% grade minimum for each quiz)

iii. Fill out the DCM Contact Establishment and Training Acknowledgement Form.

1.    You will not be in the Cayuse database until this occurs!

 

2.    Complete AALAS online training modules

a.    The required modules depend on what species and procedures you will be performing. (See the IACUC policy to determine which modules you are required to take.).

b.    Please follow the instructions for signing in to the online modules: AALAS Account set-up Instructions.

c.     Once complete, you do not need to bring the certificates to anyone. Your completion will be saved in the system.

 

3.    Obtain Occupational Health Clearance     

a.    Complete and submit the Health History Survey.

b.    You will receive an email from the Occupational Health Coordinator once approved.


4.    Protocol Amendment

a.    The PI must submit an amendment in Cayuse to add you to the protocol. You cannot do this yourself.

i. You are NOT considered listed on the protocol until this amendment is approved.

b.    You will receive an email from the IACUC Office once you have been approved.

c.    You are responsible for reading the protocol and understanding all procedures.

d.    You will not be approved on the protocol until steps 1-3 are completed!

 

5.    Request access to the DCM (regardless of species) and enroll for walk-around rodent facility training (for mice and rats' users) by filling out the DCM Facility Access Form

 

Access into the Facility will NOT be granted until ALL 5 STEPS have been completed!

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Visitors: Investigators and/or technicians are not permitted to bring visitors into the DCM without the DCM Director's approval. 

Minors: Individuals under the age of 18 are NOT permitted into the facility. They will, however, be required to take the DCM orientation if they are working with research animals in a laboratory. 

Anyone who does not have authorized access to the facility, but is expected, MUST sign in at the front desk of the Business Office.
