The Conservation Actions and Measures Library (CAML) is an open-source library of Miradi results chains for the most common conservation actions. CAML is based on the idea that we can be more efficient and effective by learning from one another. CAML entries are organized by the IUCN-CMP classification of conservation actions and contain generic results chains, as well as standard objectives and indicators. These serve as starting points for teams to develop specific results chains for their conservation programs. They can also form the basis for selecting common indicators to assess action effectiveness. Watch the CAML teaser video on YouTube.

CAML can help practitioners find theories of change that serve as templates for their project’s specific conservation actions. It can also help managers and funders develop standard objectives and performance indicators to report on similar actions across a portfolio of actions. It is our hope that CAML will provide the basis for systematic learning about the conditions under which different actions work.
Note: The official CAML landing page (housed under Miradi Share) will be coming out soon...!
Why Generic Theories of Change?
CAML can help practitioners find generic theory of change pathways that serve as templates for their project’s specific conservation actions and strategies. It can also help managers and funders develop standard objectives and performance indicators to report on similar actions across a portfolio of actions.
It is our hope that CAML will provide the basis for systematic learning about the conditions under which different actions work.
Three Types of CAML Entries
Single Actions - Basic conservation actions organized by the CMP Actions Classification, v 2.0
Compound Strategies - Combinations of actions to counter key threats and/or achieve key outcomes
Measures (coming in future) - A searchable list of generic objectives & indicators for key factors
Entries in CAML are now organized by the CMP Standard Classification of Conservation Actions, v 2.0 and include definitions, generic theories of change, objectives, and performance indicators for each action. The full file for each entry can be downloaded as a Miradi v 4.3 project file.
