Early High School Credit
Students may earn early high school credit for eligible courses taken while in the 8th grade at Columbia Junior High. A list of eligible courses is available on the left.
Important changes for 2019-20:
A student who has completed high school courses before attending high school (9th grade) shall be given high school credit which shall be applied to fulfilling high school graduation requirements (per RCW 28A.230.090). These credits will now automatically appear on the student's high school transcript unless otherwise requested by the student and the student's family.
Parents/guardians have from the 8th grade until before the end of the 11th grade year to do the following:
Do nothing...keep the grade and credit earned.
Request that high school courses and credits earned before high school (9th grade) be removed from their child’s permanent high school transcript.
Request the credit stay on the transcript, but the letter grade become a “P” for passing. The grade will NOT be calculated in the high school Grade Point Average (GPA).
Important considerations for earning early high school credits:
The grade received will be computed into the students high school cumulative grade point average (GPA). This is important as GPA can affect other opportunities such as college admissions, scholarship eligibility and other GPA sensitive opportunities.
Once a change is made to the transcript, the decision cannot be reversed.
To request removal of early high school credit or to request a grade change to a “P” passing grade, parents/guardians may request a Early High School Credit Request Form from the CJH Counseling Office.
