Spanish I
We are pleased to offer Spanish I to 8th grade students at CJH!
Spanish is a college prep class for students planning to attend a 4-year university. 8th grade students participating in this class will be held to high school level standards and can earn early high school credit. Learning a language is a skill that requires time and practice. Thus, we need a group of hard working students willing to make a commitment to this class. We realize that a large number of students will be interested in this opportunity, however we must limit the number of students based on the number and size of sections available. This means that not everyone who registers for Spanish I will be enrolled in the class.
Factors considered when placing students in this course:
- GPA (3.0 recommended)
- Attendance
- Individual student schedule
Studying a foreign language is a cumulative process which includes grammar, parts of speech, sentence structure, vocabulary and cultural activities. Attendance is an important component to success and understanding. Missing a class will put you behind because conversation, instruction and practice activities in class cannot be re-created.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students planning to take two year-long electives such as band, choir, or Math Tools will not be able to enroll in Spanish I as their schedule does not allow it. We strongly recommend speaking with our school counselor prior to selecting this course.
