A Seminar Series in the Field

If you would like to participate in the class of 2021-2022, please enroll early as the program is limited to 25 participants. Click here for the online application.

The Exploring Our Sense of Place program is a series of educational excursions through the San Dieguito River Valley in the San Dieguito Watershed. The watershed begins on the slopes of Volcan Mountain and merges with the waters of the Pacific Ocean at the San Dieguito Lagoon.

ESP is NOT a hiking organization or club. Participants should be able to comfortably hike at least several miles with elevation gain and should also be prepared for relatively flat, slow moving excursions.

Those who want to learn more about the San Dieguito River Park and strengthen their connection to nature, are able to hike at a relaxed pace for 3-4 miles, and are willing to make a commitment to attend at least 6 of the 8 sessions are encouraged to submit their application.

The Tuition: $250 for individuals and $450 for couples, which includes the two texts, course materials, and lectures by local experts. Participants must provide their own brown bag lunches, hiking supplies and equipment.

Enrollment: Enrollment is limited to 25 participants in order to maximize the experience for participants. Participants must be San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy members. If you are not currently a member of the Conservancy, you may obtain membership here. If you are interested, please email the Program
