About Employment Standards
Employment Standards are minimum standards of employment for employers and employees in the workplace. In Alberta, our employment standards are contained in the Employment Standards Code and the Employment Standards Regulation.
What does Employment Standards do?
Employment Standards helps Albertans maintain fair and equitable workplaces. The Code and Regulation provide tools to help employers and employees resolve their disputes. When employment disputes arise and the parties are unable to resolve the matters on their own, the Code provides a fair and equitable dispute resolution process that includes investigation, enforcement and appeals.
Does Employment Standards apply to you?
Nearly all employers and their employees in Alberta are subject to the Employment Standards Code and Regulation. Standards under the Code apply to employers who employ part-time, full-time, casual, temporary, student, pieceworker, commissioned sales and salaried employees.
