Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
[Wanfang] found somewhat similar matlab code to use as model for extending static image algorithm for use on video. Began setting up VLC for streaming video to matlab
Actively working on the light source components (LED color, LED number, code for measuring pupil size)
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Picked color of LED's for prototype (red)
[Wanfang] Completed goal of running sample code to determine sponsor's laptop can process 8 static frames a second. Potential for code optimization.
[Wanfang] Completed goal of determining how to transfer video of pupil to matlab. Got permission to stream real-time video of eye from eye machine using VLC player through LAN to sponsor's matlab laptop.
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Research if light sensitivity will be a concern for the change in pupil size for the prototype. (Robert)
[Wanfang] Run expanded matlab code on pre-recorded eye video to verify can process more than 5fps (previously verified on 1 static image. Streaming may tax pc's processing power)
[Wanfang] Learn and set up VLC to stream realtime video of my desktop through home LAN network as practice for sponsor's lab.
[Lihua] Research for possible solutions to control DC current using digital potentiometer and OpAmps.
[Ji In] Start working on the code for video processing
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Dr. Xu is excited at software progress, says he thinks the 8fps processing is sufficient and that we should suppress the matlab warnings (ie done via optimizing the program more)
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Control LED brightness via current instead of voltage because current powers LED. Meeting with Steve Roberts Thurs 1/19 (in person) for additional advice on this matter.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Patients with light sensitive eyes may not respond to the same step size in the light source as an average person would. (add extra LED's? make a tent for computer screens to leave the room as dark as possible?)
Have yet to test theoretical solution to LED flicker.

Progress on Report and Webpage
Working on the 6 required parts that are due 1/20 for the report and have updated the cover page of the webpage and placed week 1 weekly progress in correct location.
