Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Inspiration from example on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjTMgTvPzzM
Oriente the product horizontally.
Cutting the top flash(with the dome) vertically downward.
Cutting the bottom flash with a gripper.
Use pneumatic actuators/sliders to move the clamp/cutter(Discussed with the chef engineer from industrial automation company).
Use aluminum bars as main frames.
Finalizing the graphic design of the block cutter and the shape of the clamp.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
CAD animations to assimilate the general idea of trimming. (Alonso)
Discussion with the chef engineer on the design and on the major parts needed(pneumatic actuator/sliders). (Insik/Keyu/Rui)
Field research on the product container factory. (Alonso)
Outlines of the final report. (Insik/Keyu/Rui)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Complete the CAD drawings of the clamp/block cutter for the symmetrical products. (Alonso)
Complete the CAD drawings of the main aluminum frames. (Keyu/Rui)
Integrate the CAD drawings with the sliders, actuators, valves and finish a pressure/force analysis. (Alonso/Insik/Keyu/Rui)
Discuss purchases with sponsors after finalize the CAD drawings. (Insik)
Make purchases of the aluminum frames since it would take the longest. (Rui)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Remember to incorporate safety concerns when making the deflasher - safety casing/protections.
Pay more attentions on the maintenance and reliability of the machine.
Be open on material using - not only aluminum or steel can be used.
The hot material does not stick onto metal when it comes out of the blow mold.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Hydraulic cutter with blades may be an overkill and a serious safety concern. (We choose pneumatic instead of hydraulic)
Safety concern - "Start N Go button"? (For safety in operation, we will discuss that after the majority is done)
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Does other material also be considered for making the cutter?(in person)
Usually, the whole machine is very expensive, how do we control the cost?(in person)
Why the flash on the side would be hotter than the container's body after molding?(in person)
Risks and Areas of Concern
Accommodate different geometries - making clamps and cutters adjustable.
