Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Discussion on the overall idea of trimming the dome and edge flash.
Final product received, clamping design has begun.
Methods for cutting flash has been narrowed down to blade instead of circular saw.
Idea for trimming edge flash has been discussed.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Tested different kinds of cutting methods on the sample container. (Rui, Keyu)
Asked the sponsor for the unflashed products and decided the weekly meeting schedule. (Insik)
Picked up deflashed samples from the sponsor. (Rui)
Created engineering drawing of the design and uploaded pictures/dimensions of the products. (Alonso)
Discussed method and blade type for trimming the edge flash. (Rui, Keyu, Insik, Alonso)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Finish the individual component analysis. (All)
Start making necessary purchases and design method for cutting dome part. (Rui)
Progress report for Week2 and design clamping methods. (Keyu Wang)
Webpage management and determine proper distance sensors. (Alonso)
PID control design for holding the side and the top of container.(Insik)
Sponsor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Different geometries in the order of decreasing importance were given. (Email - 03/15/2017)
Will work on the most important geometry first.
The temperature of the flash: 90 - 120 degree celcius; Temperature of the product: 40 - 60 degree celcius. (Email - 03/17/2017)
Analysis on the property of HDPE at these temperature ranges.
Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Suggested using an ultrasonic knife to cut the flash on the edge - Ian Richardson.
Suggested using a hot wire to cut the material - Pedro Franco.
1.5mm teeth set apart for circular saw is too big - Jerry Tustaniwskyj.
Heat up the blade for cutting the plastic flash - Jerry Tustaniwskyj.
Comments from Other Students in the Class (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
Use water jet cutter for cutting edge.
Risks and Areas of Concern
Only be able to deflash container with one geometry(most likely a symmetrical one).
Unable to effectively trim the flash on the side of the containers.
Blade holder may not keep same approaching angle during cutting.
Resources or Information Required but not Available
Still waiting for the container with the flash mailed from the production plant.
