Overview of Status of Analysis, Design, Fabrication, Tests, etc.
Flash trimming design: Using block-shaped cutter for trimming edge flash on the top and the bottom of the product.
Dome trimming design(Proposed):
long-shaped cutoff blade, screwed or welded to the block-shaped cutter (same time as flash trimming)
circular saw drived by electric motor (additional process required)
Ideally finish all the trimming for one product at the same time, otherwise separate it into two processes.
The design of the block-shaped cutter and the dome cutoff blade have begun.
Accomplishments from Previous Week
Met agreement on the exact trimming method(as discussed above) with sponsor and professors.
Proposed designs:
Aluminum 6061-T6 for making the block-shaped cutter (Rui)
Dome cutoff blade material and type analysis (Rui)
Stainless steel 304 for making main frames (Keyu)
Clamping device analysis: Material and shape (Keyu), Motor Analysis(Insik)
Electric motor with control modules for clamping (Insik)
Hydraulic motor for pushing block-shaped cutter (Alonso)
Engineering Drawing and dimension analysis (Alonso)
Goals for Next Week (list names after each item). Use specific and measurable objectives.
Start major component purchasing(Hydraulic motor, materials for cutting, etc.) and block cutter dimension analysis (Rui)
Determine clamping device's dimension for the most important dimension (Keyu)
Test electric motor with control module (Insik)
Obtain multiple hydraulic motors' spec and make final decision (Alonso)
Begin ordering/identifying parts needed (All members)

One machine fits all geometries will be perfect but fixed block-shaped cutter is also desirable if working.( 4/6/17 in person)
The edge flash on the top and bottom is hot and long when coming out from the mold, better to put it horizontally. In case it will fall down to the body of the container and stick to it once cool down.
The plant only makes one or two shapes of the container each week, not every shape is made weekly --- minor adjustments to the deflasher are ok for accommodating different geometries.
Trim the flash first, then the cut the dome off(Suggestion).

Instructor Comments from Last Meeting and Actions Taken to Address these Comments (indicate date of comments and if via email or in person)
A router can be used for trimming edge flash, will fit all geometries and no damage to the container's surface (4/5/2017 in person)
Fixed block-shaped cutter is also okay. (4/5/2017 in person)
