Cartoon activity

We examined the attached cartoons answered the following questions and completed the writing assignment

B. Who are the people surrounding Africa?

C. What are they doing?

D. What message is the cartoon trying to convey?

2. Other Cartoon

A. What is happening in this cartoon?

B. What do the expressions on the men’s faces show us about their feelings and thoughts?

C. What is the man in the chair doing?

D. What message is this cartoon trying to convey?

As you discuss these questions, you might want to jot down notes on what is said.

Now, get out a piece of paper that you can turn in, and write a paragraph answering the following question:

What do the cartoons tell us about the attitude of Europeans toward the land and people of Africa? Write with as much clarity as possible, utilizing specific pieces of information from the cartoons. I will be reading and assessing these.

Read Imperialism and Colonialism in Africa part I. The guiding question for the reading is: What were the motivations for European Colonialism in Africa?
