tournament schedule

The following is our tentative schedule for the 16-17 school year. This is subject to change.

Oct 28th-29th Puyallup HS hosted at PLU

We are not sure what type of tournament this will be. I'll update this soon.

November 4th-5th Gig Harbor Invitational

This will be the first tournament for most of our team. The tournament will run Friday after school and all day on Saturday. Our open students will help at this tournament. First year students will compete.

November 11th-12th Central Valley Bear Brawl in Spokane

We will drive to Spokane on the morning of the 11th and stay in a hotel on Friday night. We will come back late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. If you would like to attend this tournament you will need to fill out an application. There will be a cost for the hotel. This tournament has TOC Bids for PF, Congress, and LD. Friday the 11th is Veterans Day, so we should not have to miss any school.

November 18th-19th Tahoma High School Golden Bear Classic

This is a large local tournament that includes every event. Anyone who meets the basic requirements may attend this tournament. We will do our best to take everyone who wants to go who is prepared. We will leave after school on Friday and return around 10:30. Saturday will be all day, leaving around 6:15 AM. State qualifier for IEs, LD, CX and PF.

December 3rd-4th Tidefest

It looks like we will not attend a tournament on the weekend of Tidefest for the first time ever. This will make it easier to run our booth and help with take down.

December 9th-10th Auburn Riverside High School

This is our second full team tournament. Everyone who is prepared may attend. Auburn Riverside offers multiple divisions of every event. It is an especially good tournament for Individual Events and Public Forum. State qualifier for LD, PF, CX, IEs, Congress.

December 15th Gig Harbor HS Speechfest

The second tournament we host is a smaller after school tournament. It is mostly an IE tournament, but we will offer Student Congress and SPAR (impromptu debate) as well. We also feature some unique events like Storybook interpretation and original poetry.

January 6th-7th University of Puget Sound

This is a great college tournament and the closest tournament of the year to us. UPS offers every event and is one of the only tournaments to break to real out rounds in debate. We will take as many students as possible, but there are some restrictions on our entry. It is a tournament of champions qualifier in LD and a state qualifier for all events.

January 13th-14th Federal Way HS held at Decatur HS this year

This is our third open entry tournament. Federal Way offers all events, but only has open division in Individual Events. Still, this is a good time for novices to move up to open. It is a TOC qualifier in LD, a NIETOC qualifier, and a state qualifier for all events.

January 21 Thomas Jefferson High School

This IE only tournament will be held only on Saturday and have a relatively short schedule. It might be the final state qualifier for individual events. It is also a NIETOC Qualifier.

January 27-28 Peninsula HS

This tournament will have PF, IEs, Congress and LD. This is also the last tournament that can affect semester grades.

February 10th-13th Stanford University (note this is a tentative date)

You will need to apply in November. You can expect to pay for your airfare and hotel costs. The team will pay entry fees, coaches costs and rental car fees as much as possible. We also may fundraise to help offset student costs. This tournament is for second year and later students only except under special circumstances. Expect the cost to be around $300, but I won't know for sure until we buy tickets.

March 3-4 (tentative) National Qualifying Tournament at Auburn Riverside or Federal Way

This tournament is the only way to qualify for the National Forensics League National Tournament. More about the schedule later.

March 11th State Individual Events Tournament at University of Puget Sound

You must qualify for this tournament either at the qualifier or an approved qualifying tournament. We want to be in the top five! Let's be prepared.

March 17-18 State Debate Tournament at UPS

We can qualify up to two entries in LD, CX, PF and Congress.
