Welcome to computer class! I'm looking forward to sharing what I know with you so you can develop the computer skills you already have.
During the year we will be learning many different things. We will begin with a review of your basic computer knowledge including terminology, hardware and file management. Next, we will add to what you already know about Microsoft Word getting into some more advanced functions of the software. After this, we will start to work on improving your keyboarding skills.
PowerPoint will come next. We will also work on some graphic design using Photoshop. If time allows, we will add in some other fun things that you can do with computers including Excel and coding. The format in which I teach my classes will generally involve my showing you a skill, practicing the new skill and then completing a project using the skill.

Guidelines:
Assignments will be on my website (https://sites.google.com/a/dcrsd.org/cms_mrs_frederico/home) sectioned by Grade Level
Instruction will be given from my desk and displayed on your computers for you to follow along. Please give me attention during this time so you can begin working on your own project as soon as possible. Interruptions during lecture (talking with friends, distracting behavior or working on the computer) will only make my lecture time take longer. Keep in mind, you need to learn what you need to do before you can do it!
Take good care of the computers! If you put food, drinks or magnets of any kind near them, they can get damaged. If the computer gets damaged, then you could risk losing all the work that you have done, as well as the work done by the other students who sit at that computer later in the day.
There is NO FOOD, CANDY or GUM allowed at any workstation!!
Improper use or abuse of the computer will result in disciplinary action.
Only use the internet when it is related to a lesson! Only use the websites that I direct you to use!! This is an area that I am very, very strict about!
Access only YOUR work. NEVER open any other student's work. You wouldn't appreciate someone opening your project and possibly damaging, changing or deleting it, so don't open theirs!
After you have several weeks to get familiar with the school, I will be enforcing a late policy. You should have enough time to get from your class to my class. If you are late to my class two times (without a note) you will receive an after-school detention.
Consequences:
Level 1: Warning
Level 2: Call home to parent (except in cases of gum chewing)
Level 3: After-School detention
Level 4: Discipline referral
Homework:
Homework for this class may happen from time to time. Make-up work can be done in school, if mutually accommodating time can be found. If not, make-up work will need to be completed at home.
Grading:
Your progress and term grades will be determined based on the following:
10% Active participation in lessons and activities
10% Conduct
10% Effort
70% submitted work (timeliness, accuracy, creativity and mechanics)
During the summer the District upgraded their grading system. We are now using SchoolBrains. Grades will be presented on a leveled Pass/Fail basis. However, work returned from me will receive a check, check plus or check minus. Comments will be added to work when necessary.
Below is a form that needs to be completed after the above information has been reviewed by both the student and a parent/guardian. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. You can reach me at kfrederico@dcrsd.org or at 508-248-1423.
I look forward to a wonderful year with you!
Mrs. Frederico
