What is an Acrostic Poem?
A poem or series of lines in which certain letters, usually the first in each line, form a name, motto, or message when read in sequence. In other words, it “explains” the word being used.
What are some words that make you think about Thanksgiving?
Acrostic word must be vertical.
The letters of the word need to be larger and in a different font so they are easily read going “down”. I have had students put the word on the page and then move over and center the acrostic, but mostly they just take the first letter and use a different font to continue to explain the word.
More than one word may be come after each letter.
Example:
P P eople
U U nited and
M M aking carvings out of
P P umpkins while
K K eeping up
I I nterest in the
N N ew Season of Autumn
