The Walnut Hills High School junior high Blue cheer leading squad has competed in many competitions and has brought back numerous awards. Recently, the Blue squad placed first at the Fight to the Finish Cheer Competition, as well as at the Think Pink Cheer and Dance Expo.
“The ability level of the Blue squad is almost high school caliber, with the tumbling and jump experience,” Blue squad coach Michele Plummer said. She believes that the cheer leading captains, Cailee Robinson, ‘21, Destiny Mapp, ‘21, Essence Childs, ‘21, JaNasia Wilkerson, ‘21, unify the team and help everyone function well together.
In the individual jump segment of the Fight to the Finish competition and the Think Pink competition, both Wilkerson and Epps were finalists, Epps placing first in each.
Coach Plummer also believes that SENIORS Kyndal Fletcher and Tyra Nellom, the program managers, deserve praise for taking care of the Blue squad and supporting their fellow cheerleaders.
Wilkerson feels “good about the accomplishments [the team made], because we have worked very hard, put a lot of trust into each other, and started to become a family.” She says that they won because “[the cheerleading squad] practiced, used teamwork, spirit and dedication.”
