The first step to effectively implementing Khan Academy test prep is understanding the importance of the SAT, and the data driven reasons Khan Academy is a means of improving scores. It is really important to make sure that all students and adults in your building understand how the program works at the beginning of the initiative. This process should be led by the administration, counseling staff, test coordinators, or college and career advisers.
Every single student should have a College Board account, and it is up to all students, teachers, and administrators to make sure that this happens. There should be one counselor or administrator who is tasked with troubleshooting accounts with issues. Click here to go to to the College Board signup website.
The linking of students' College Board accounts with their Khan Academy accounts will give them a personalized test preparation routine. Click through this presentation to learn more about the process of linking these two accounts and troubleshooting techniques for common problems encountered.
Show students this YouTube video, which very simply explains the process of linking the two accounts.
Every school should have one counselor or administrator in charge of making sure this process goes smoothly and troubleshoots any problems found with accounts. One common problem occurs with students' accounts that were opened prior to their turning 13. These accounts have restrictive privacy settings that disallows Khan Academy from collecting information necessary for the program to work. For students that encounter that problem, click here for instructions on how to update their birthdays on Khan Academy.
Khan Academy Coaches monitor student usage of personalized SAT practice. The recommended coaching structure is two-tiered, with an administrator acting as a head coach presiding over the entire student body and individual teachers overseeing smaller groups of students. Head coaches should have a class set up for each grade level 9, 10, and 11. This way they can monitor student progress and engagement with the program for all students and leverage classroom coaches to keep students on track to meet their goals.
Each individual teacher should send an invitation to students in their classroom to provide work related to their particular content that connects to the whole class work happening. Teachers can then assign work and monitor students completion of that work.
In order to expedite the process of getting accounts linked, create homeroom and grade level incentives to encourage students to get it done.
There are 3 times annually when you will need to make sure that students are re-linking their College Board and Khan Academy accounts.
