It is important to properly manage all the data that streams in from the Khan Academy platform. The chart below details the roles that need to be assigned to make sure that this data is handled efficiently and that the proper information is extracted from it and appropriate interventions are then planned.
Additionally, it is important for data privacy reasons to make sure that any staff no longer connected to the school are unable to view student data. Make sure that if a coach departs for any reason that they are no longer able to access this data via the College Board/Khan platform.
In December and June, Administrators and ILT members should consult this deck and discuss the following:
Teachers should work with Department leaves to unpack classroom level data, using the data analysis protocols. This should include Dashboard classroom level reports.
Set up school, grade level, and individual student goals based off of College Board growth norms. The data provided from the College Board and Khan Academy makes post-receiving test scores a great time for teachers to sit down one on one with students, analyze the data presented to them, and come up with appropriate practices steps moving forward. Counsel teachers on how to find time to have these conversations. Additionally, help prepare teachers for these conversations by providing them resources like this goal setting reflection form.
Provide parent meetings that discuss the PSAT/SAT format, scores, and college financial information. Make sure that both parents and students understand the scholarship doors that open by increasing your score. Print off PSAT/SAT College Board reports and hand them out with report cards. Let parents know that the areas of weakness on the College Board report can be practiced on Khan Academy.
Create a venue where you can celebrate students for meeting data goals. Hold an assembly to recognize students who improved their scores, hand out certificates, buy food, organize field trips, or make posts on a bulletin board or in a newsletter.
This presentation details how teachers can connect Khan Academy and College Board generated data to the SAT Skills Insight document to inform instruction. Additionally, provide exemplar unit plans to your teachers that include the use of Skills Insight training.
