Mathematical Aspects of Continuum Mechanics

CoMFoS

Introduction

The activity group CoMFoS in JSIAM fosters activity at the interface between mathematics, computing, and researcher on continuum mechanics, and is going to change a name with MACM.

It was an opening that CoMFoS founded a study meeting on Fracture Phenomena several days after Hanshin Awaji great earthquake disaster of January, 1995 and activity had been stoped at one time, but reopened activity as the activity group in JSIAM from 2005.

CoMFoS = Continuum Mechanics Focusing on Singularities

Its main activities are:

• 1. organization of a CoMFoS meeting on theoretical topics of Continuum Mechanics,

  2. organization of minisymposia related to continuum mechanics at JSIAM's annual meetings

  3. organization of minisymposia in NCTAM

  4. NCTAM = National Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics

  5. creation and maintenance of a "wiki-style" website (this) to enhance the connectedness of the diverse scientific community working in this area.
